Wow, a real pioneer. What an interesting article. Thanks for sharing.

I should probably mention that my story as to why I started blogging is quite similar to Tom's.

Reason #1: Blogger.Com was an easier way to update my webpage and get around my then-employer's firewall. (Which seemed to allow FTP connections on some days and block them others.)

Reason: #2: Realizing that the dotcom boom brought in PR practitioners that had NO BUSINESS in the profession, I had to think about how I could differentiate myself. Since the #1 complaint from journalists is that PR people don't read their work, I thought I might distinguish myself by publishing proof-positive evidence that I A) read their work, and B) had something to say about it.

It'd be a little tougher to do that these days, though.

But... Yeah... I wish I could say "I was pioneering an exploration of democratized social communication for B2B and deep-tech companies." But... Alas... My start in blogging was one of those necessity-is-the-mother-of-invention type things.

As I told President Bush yesterday, that Tom Murphy is as grumpy in real life as he is on his blog, which is why any day now I'm predicting that the old Tom 'PR' Murphy will die and be re-born as Murphy 2.0 ;)
